KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent and the Grenadines — A new financial technology platform is seeking to make it easier for Caribbean professionals to receive and manage US-dollar payments from international clients and online platforms.

Sendana, a fintech company founded by Jamaican technology entrepreneur Monique Powell, provides users in more than 150 countries with access to virtual US-dollar banking infrastructure. The platform is designed primarily for freelancers, remote workers, creators and other professionals who earn income from international clients and digital platforms.

For professionals in St. Vincent and the Grenadines who work with overseas clients, one of the challenges of operating in the global digital economy can be receiving international payments efficiently. Sendana is designed to address that gap by providing users with a virtual USD account that can receive ACH and wire transfers.

According to Sendana, users can also connect their accounts to platforms such as PayPal and Upwork, allowing them to receive earnings in US dollars and manage those funds through the platform.

How Sendana Works

Sendana describes itself as a global banking platform rather than a traditional bank. After signing up and completing its requirements, eligible users can receive a virtual US-dollar account.

The platform says funds received through traditional US bank transfers generally take one to three days, while USDC transfers can be received instantly. Users can then transfer funds, withdraw money through supported channels or spend using a Sendana Visa card.

Sendana also allows transfers between Sendana users at no charge, according to its published fee schedule. Other services carry fees, including international transfers to Visa or Mastercard and withdrawals through MoneyGram.

Why It Could Matter to SVG’s Digital Economy

St. Vincent and the Grenadines has a growing community of freelancers, consultants, online entrepreneurs and remote workers serving customers outside the Caribbean.

For these professionals, access to reliable international payment infrastructure can be an important part of doing business online. Caribbean technology publication ICT Pulse recently highlighted the broader challenge faced by freelancers and small businesses in the region, including international payment delays, fees and limited access to online payment facilities.

Platforms such as Sendana are attempting to bridge that gap by giving users access to financial tools traditionally associated with international banking.

For an SVG-based freelancer working for a US company, for example, the ability to receive an ACH payment into a US-dollar account could provide another option for managing international earnings.

Sendana Is Not a Bank

Potential users should also understand what Sendana is — and is not.

The company states that Sendana is a financial technology company, not a bank. Banking, card-issuing and local cash-payout services are provided through licensed partners.

Sendana also says that balances in its wallets consist of stablecoins such as USDC and USDT and are held on-chain. These balances are not bank deposits and are not covered by FDIC, SIPC or other government-backed insurance programs.

At present, Sendana says it supports individual accounts rather than accounts in the name of businesses. It notes, however, that individuals can use the platform to receive payments from clients and platforms such as Upwork and PayPal.

A New Option for Caribbean Professionals

Sendana’s emergence comes as digital work continues to reduce the importance of geographical borders. A consultant in St. Vincent can work with a company in the United States, a graphic designer can serve clients in Canada, and a content creator can earn income from audiences around the world.

The challenge is increasingly not finding international work, but being able to receive and manage the money efficiently.

Sendana is positioning its platform as one possible solution, combining virtual USD accounts, stablecoin-based transfers, payment cards and cash-out options.

For Vincentians earning income online, the platform represents another development in the rapidly changing Caribbean digital payments landscape — one that could make international payments more accessible while also raising important questions around fees, regulation, security and the use of stablecoins.

For more information, Sendana’s official website provides details on eligibility, supported countries, fees and available services.
