Vincentian farmers could gain greater certainty about where their produce will be sold through a new partnership involving the Government and Quantome Incorporated.
As reported on September 18, Agriculture Minister Israel Bruce and Quantome CEO Jacques Nack signed a data management and protection agreement supporting a digital marketplace and agricultural supply platform.
The initiative aims to connect farmers with restaurants and other local and international buyers, beginning with dasheen and peppers.
Information about planting, crop quantities and expected harvests will help buyers understand what produce will become available. The platform is intended to support traceable listings and purchasing arrangements from the planting stage.
Staff will also work alongside agricultural extension officers to support implementation.
For farmers, the intended benefit is better coordination between production and demand. The initiative also seeks to strengthen connections between agriculture and tourism by improving access to buyers in the hospitality sector.
