KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent and the Grenadines — A proposed US$100 million eco-resort development on the Grenadine island of Mayreau is creating fresh expectations for tourism investment, employment and business opportunities in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

The project, known as SOMA Mayreau, is being advanced through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Invest SVG and Luxembourg-based property developer Nativo Group.

The agreement was signed in Kingstown on September 30, 2026, with details of the proposed investment publicly announced in October.

A Major Investment in Grenadine Tourism

SOMA Mayreau is envisioned as an environmentally conscious hospitality development featuring more than 100 accommodation keys, including guestrooms and hotel villas, alongside wellness, dining and marine tourism experiences.

The approximately US$100 million investment is expected to be financed privately through foreign investment and commercial bank financing, rather than direct government funding.

According to information released about the project, the proposed construction programme would span approximately 24 months.

Potential Employment and Business Opportunities

If successfully implemented, the project could offer significant opportunities to Vincentian workers and businesses.

Construction activity could create demand for skilled tradespeople, contractors, transportation providers and suppliers of construction materials.

Once operational, the development could also generate opportunities in hospitality, food production, marine services, maintenance, tourism transportation and other related industries.

Local farmers, fishers and small-business operators may also benefit from new purchasing and service contracts.

However, the scale of those benefits will depend on the project’s final design, financing, procurement arrangements and implementation.

Environmental Sustainability and Community Development

The proposed resort places environmental management and community participation among its stated priorities.

Plans include integrated approaches to water, waste and resource management, alongside possible initiatives supporting food production, energy resilience, apprenticeships, environmental restoration and village improvements.

The developer has also identified potential restoration work at the historic Mayreau Parish Church complex as one of several community initiatives for consideration.

Community consultation will be important in determining which initiatives proceed and how residents participate in the island’s development.

What Happens Next?

The signing of the MOU represents a step towards advancing the proposed development, rather than confirmation that construction has begun.

Further progress will depend on financing, regulatory approvals, infrastructure planning and other implementation requirements.

For St. Vincent and the Grenadines, SOMA Mayreau represents a potentially important tourism investment that could help diversify the country’s visitor accommodation offerings and increase economic activity in the Southern Grenadines.

SVG Bulletin Board will continue following developments surrounding the proposed resort, particularly confirmed investment milestones, employment opportunities and opportunities for local businesses.
